General FAQ’s

Q. Can I take Homeopathy along with Allopathic and other therapies?

Yes, homeopathy can be taken as an add-on or complementary therapy along with other therapies or allopathic medicines. Infact, it is advisable not to stop your allopathic medications immediately. If required, your homeopathic doctor will advise you to start homeopathic treatment alongwith Allopathy. Once your condition improves, you may taper the consumption of your allopathic medicines on advice of your physician.

In some cases where the other medicine cannot be discontinued, both the medicines have to be continued for the benefit of the patient. The treatment should be planned and properly implemented. In such cases it is advisable that a half an hour gap is maintained between homeopathic and other medications. These situations are common when the patient is on essential medicines such as Diabetes, Hypertension, Cardiac disorders, Thyroid disorders or life-saving medicines as in accident or post-surgery, in such cases, you must follow the treating physician’s advice. Remember to share the information with your homeopathic physician about the medicines you are already taking during your consultation.

Q. For how many days can I stock up homeopathic medicine?

Homeopathic medicines can be stocked safely for 8 months to 1 year. However, you need to ensure that the medicines are kept away from extreme temperatures & moisture. Also, after every use, the cap of the bottle should be kept tight.

For further requirements of medicines, you can always avail our services that offer medicine delivery at your doorstep, both nationally and internationally.

Q. What are mother tintures in homeopathy?

Mother tinctures are the crude/base potency of homeopathic medicines. They are diluted with water for usage. Usually these are given in less to moderate doses (few drops per dose). One should avoid prolonged usage of mother tinctures as self-medication and take them with physician’s advice only.

Q. What is the right way of taking the Homeopathic medicines?

Homeopathic pills must be taken in the cap of the vial or plastic spoon first and then put in the mouth. It is advisable that the pills should not be touched to keep medicine safe from any kind of contamination.

Incase of liquid potencies, they must be diluted in water before consumption. Usually, few drops (as recommended by your physician) of liquid dilution are diluted with 2 – 4tsp water and few drops (as recommended by your physician) of mother tinctures are diluted in half to one cup of water and consumed.

Bottles must be capped and tightened properly after each use.

It is very important that all Homeopathic medicines must be taken as per the advice of a registered homeopathic practitioner only.

Q. What should be the time gap between meals and medicines?

We go by the logic that lesser the smell in the mouth, more effective the medicine would be. Hence, there must be an ample time gap between meals/consuming homeopathic medicines. As a general advice, a patient needs to give a gap of 20 – 30 minutes before and after taking homeopathic medicines. However, water can be consumed immediately before or after taking medicines.

Incase you are prescribed more than one medicine, then minimum gap of 2 minutes each should be given between 2 medicines.

Q. What food should be avoided with homeopathic medicines?

In general, there is no restriction to any food (as commonly asked by the patients). We only advise our patients to maintain an ample gap (of about 20-30 min) between meals and medicines (before or after taking medicine).

In some cases, certain restrictions on food are mandatory in any system of medicine for effective treatment. For example, diabetics are not allowed to consume foods that are high in sugar, and the intake of salt should be reduced by those with high blood pressure. These restrictions are applicable irrespective of whether patients opt for allopathic or homeopathic treatment. In such cases, we give personalized dietary plan to all those who require change in their diet or restrictions according to their disease profile.

One may take Tea, Coffee, onion, garlic etc. (in moderate quantity), if not specifically restricted by the treating physician.

Q. How do I store my homeopathic medicine?

Homeopathic medicines must be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, heat, radiations such as microwave, TV, or strong odors such as camphor, solvents, paint, and chemicals etc. Homeopathic medicines should not be refrigerated. All medicines should be out of reach of children or pets. Medicines must be tightly capped after each use.

Q. What is the expiry of homeopathic medicines?

Nowadays every homeopathic medicine comes with a pre-defined expiry especially biochemic tablets, combinations, patents and mother tinctures. The expiry of homeopathic medicines and formulation may vary from type of preparations. If there is any change in colour of the pills, biochemic tablets or change in consistency/colour change in liquid dilution/tinctures, one must not consume them.

Q. Can I repeat my medication without consulting the physician next time, if I feel the medicine is giving me relief?

Homeopathic medicines are completely safe but must be taken with consultation and supervision only. Your homeopathic practitioner knows the dosage, repetition and potency selection and therefore helps a patient with right medicine – right dose – and right repetition. Self-medication must be avoided. Many times, people keep on taking mother tinctures in substantiate dosage for long without consulting a physician. Such a usage is not advisable at all.

Q. All homeopathic medicines look the same. How can the same homeopathic pill cure a variety of ailments?

Homeopathic medicines may look alike, but they are not the same. The matter that cures you is captured within the small white pills on which the medicine is poured for better taste. The basic ingredients of homeopathic medicines are derived from 3000 plus different sources, including plants and minerals and there are 10 variable potencies (powers of medicines) of each medicine so a minimum 30,000 plus various permutation and combinations can be utilized. Their active principles are extracted into various solvents and the liquid homeopathic medicine is poured into small, highly porous, absorptive sugar globules for better taste. So, they are not the same.

Q. Do homeopathic medicines have side-effects?

Homeopathy is a natural, safe as well as effective method of healing. Homeopathic medicines are made from natural sources like plants and minerals. Generally, when self-medicated with potencies not advised by your qualified homeopathic physician, these medicines may cause certain side-effects. The best part is that they are absolutely non-toxic and non-habit forming and the cure is safe and sure.

Q. Do homeopathic medicines have steroids?

Steroids are against the philosophy of homeopathy as homeopathy believes in correcting the disorder instead of suppressing it, unlike those steroid-based drugs. All homoeopathic medicines use scientific methods of extracting medicinal properties from natural substances. Hence, there is no scope or need to adulterate the medicines with any other substance.

At our clinic, all homeopathic combinations are prepared in front of the patient for our patients to actually see the making of homeopathic pills. However, if you have doubts regarding the contents of homeopathic medicines, you can get them tested at a laboratory for steroids. There are some specific tests that help evaluate the presence of steroids in a given compound.

Q. Can homeopathy treat all types of illnesses? In which disease condition homeopathic treatment is effective?

There is no condition that Homeopathy cannot treat. Homeopathy can be very effective in both acute as well as chronic illnesses ranging from common cold to chronic cases even upto cancer.

Homeopathy has wonderful remedies that give quick and effective relief in acute cases like fever, cough, cold, diarrhea, headaches etc. It works well for child health problems related to memory, growth and immunity. Homeopathy offers relief to women’s health issues like PCOD, PMS, menopause, etc. It works well for hair loss, thyroid and obesity, and has proven to be effective in the treatment of chronic cases of skin disorders, arthritis, asthma and many others. Thus, homeopathy provides a safe and effective cure for a majority of ailments, except those which need emergency care and surgery.

Q. Is homeopathy slow in action?

No, their action is quick and the effect lasts much longer, often forever. The disease is treated from its roots. Unfortunately, people tend to go to a homeopath only when the acute problem becomes chronic, that is, it becomes more severe and difficult to treat. They choose homeopathy when other systems of medicine fail to treat or completely cure their medical condition, most often in cases like arthritis, asthma, rare skin conditions, etc. These cases naturally take longer to treat, even with any other system of medicine. For acute ailments like fever, diarrhoea, acute cold, cough, etc., homeopathic remedies act as fast as conventional medicines, sometimes even faster. In certain cases, these remedies produce results even quicker than other forms of therapy.

Q. For how long does one need to take homeopathic medicine?

Any disease requires a time span to get treated completely. However, you might see an improvement in your condition within a few weeks of starting homeopathic treatment for chronic ailments; on the other hand, it might even take a few years to see positive results. The duration of homeopathic treatment depends a lot on factors like the duration of your illness, progress of the disorder and earlier treatments you may have taken for the same. For example, if you are suffering from arthritis since 8-10 years, you might have to take homeopathic medicines for at least 2-3 years to see an improvement in your condition. In acute cases, however, the medicines act really fast. We provide tentative treatment duration to all our patients during their consultation for better clarity. But, some may decide to stop their treatment in between which is not advisable as it may nullify the effect of treatment taken till that time.

Q. Does homeopathy believe in surgery?

Surgery is necessary in conditions where medicines have limited or no scope. This stands true with any therapy. A number of diseases which are labelled as 'surgical', where homeopathy works curatively and can even avoid surgery in some cases are septic recurrent tonsillitis, piles, some cases of appendicitis, certain cases of kidney stones, small-sized uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, warts, corns, etc.

Homeopathy works extremely well in post-operative care, or after surgical procedures like bypass surgery.

Q. Is it safe to take homeopathic medicines during pregnancy?

Yes. Homeopathy effectively addresses pregnancy related problems without any toxic side-effects to overcome the symptoms of nausea, anaemia, backache, cramps, morning sickness, constipation, heartburn, blood pressure, emotional distress, etc., that are common during pregnancy. Homeopathy works gently and effectively to relieve such discomfort without any side effects. For better results, it is advisable to take homeopathic medicines under the care and guidance of an expert homeopathic physician.

However, in certain conditions, we appropriately guide the patients to avoid or defer the treatment if the health problem does not need immediate attention.

Q. Do homeopathic medicines increase symptoms initially?

In some cases there is an initial aggravation of the symptoms but it is a good sign that shows the medicine is right and has started acting. But this happens in a few cases and not all patients will have an aggravation. Usually, such symptoms last only for a few hours to a few days, except for chronic cases where symptoms might last a bit longer.

Q. Does homeopathic treatment need a diagnosis and blood tests or X-rays like conventional treatment?

Like any other system of medicine, homeopathy also needs to evaluate your condition thoroughly and make the correct diagnosis. Simply taking medication on the basis of symptoms will only mask your symptoms, and not get to the root of the problem. The symptoms can give your doctor a rough indication of what you could be suffering, but tests will help narrow down the diagnoses. Blood tests, X-rays and CT scan reports will provide the doctor with adequate information about the progress of your condition, presence of disease-causing virus or bacteria in your body, deficiency of vital minerals or nutrients, and several other medical facts that will help them suggest an appropriate remedy.

It is a normal tendency of the patients that they donot carry their test reports to a homeopath. But, on the contrary, I would always advise my patients to carry any previous investigations done related to your problem for our first- hand information. We even advise few investigations to our patients to have better insight to the problem.

Q. Why don’t homeopathic doctors disclose the name of the medicines they hand out?

One of the biggest reasons behind the aggravation of diseases in patients today is self-medication. Self-medication poses a risk of incorrect dosage, severe adverse reactions, dangerous drug interactions, drug-dependency and aggravation of the condition. Homeopathy has several potencies for each medication. One may require different potencies at different point of time depending on their conditions. Different permutations and combinations are made by Homeopaths every time the patient visits the doctor for same disease. When patients know the name of the medicine that helped cure their symptoms once, they tend to treat their ailment with the same medicine and potency in case of recurrence. This can do more harm than benefit. However, we always share the medicines prescribed to our patients on their prescription to ensure transparency in their treatment.

Q. Is it safe to take homeopathic medicine while breast feeding?

Homeopathic medicines are natural and do not cause toxic side-effects. They are safe for both the mother and the baby. Hence, homeopathic medicines can be safely taken by the mother while she is breast feeding. However, in certain conditions, we appropriately guide the patients to avoid or defer the treatment if the health problem does not need immediate attention.

Q. Is it true that homeopathic medicines are only placebos (sugar pills) or psychological?

Homeopathy acts effectively on all ages. This would not have been possible if homeopathic remedies were placebos. Additionally, with countless cured cases and satisfied patients, it is difficult to believe that homeopathy would have been so popular and successful in around 180 countries across the world for over 200 years with just a placebo effect.

Q. Are there homeopathic doctors with particular specialty who only treat you for particular conditions like in conventional medicine?

Homeopathic practice is never restricted to one type of illness or segment. A homeopath is trained to treat a wide variety of illnesses, right from common problems like sinusitis and allergic cough to more serious conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis and even diseases like cancer. In the true sense, a homeopath is a multi-specialist. But, yes, due to a particular doctor’s interest, skills and knowledge, they may excel themselves practically on certain diseases and treat them better than others.

Q. How often do I need to visit the homeopathic doctor during treatment?

For acute problems, you might have to visit your homeopathic doctor only once, as most acute illnesses get cured within a few days and with a few doses of medicine. However, for chronic problems, you might have to visit your homeopath more often. After the first consultation and diagnosis, we recommend a personalised treatment plan with tentative time duration and ask you to return for a follow-up visit every month. This will last until your ailment gets completely cured.

Q. Can patients suffering from Diabetes take homeopathic medicines?

Yes why not? As the daily dietary intake of sugar by a person would normally far exceed the minuscule quantity consumed in the form of homeopathic pills (Approximately the quantity of sugar consumed with 1 cup of tea is same as being consumed by entire week of Homeopathic medication). The patient also has an option of taking the medicines in liquid form, or by inhalation. Besides this, homeopathic pills are composed of lactose that is not harmful even for diabetes.
